T3LAB - Laboratory for ICT Technologic Transfer (T3LAB) - is an Italian ICT laboratory for industrial research supported by University of Bologna and local industrial association Unindustria Bologna. T3LAB is a no-profit consortium with an organization designed by both the academic and the industrial world. T3LAB is a dynamic environment, where young researchers work under the directions of university Professors and senior researchers in order to develop prototypes suitable to demonstrate the potentialities of new technologies. The Lab aims at obtaining significant results in terms of:

Know-how and patents
Prototypes of industrial innovations
Qualified young researchers
Strong interaction between academic research and industry
Cooperation among the associated industries (particularly small/medium enterprises)

The Lab is organized in "Research Groups", each formed by young researchers lead by an academic tutor. Each Group works on a specific technology, chosen though discussions with the associated companies, developing a "demonstrator" for the technology under study, that represent a tool for the practical focalization of the research. These technologies must be of interest for a number of associated industries, providing a "critical mass" for interest.

Inside T3LAB the associated companies can be informed and keep abreast of modern ICTs by means of a continuous contact with research groups, that they could not afford because of their focus on products and service development. In practice, the associate companies cooperate with each other for research at pre-competitive level in order to create solid basis for industrial innovation. Based on a survey on a representative sample of interested companies, T3LAB has chosen to focus its ICT
research activity mainly on the following topics:

Advanced Sensor Techniques - a significant, but not exhaustive list of topics includes:
mechanical, optical, chemical, biological sensors; wearable sensors; disposable sensors; embedded micro-sensors; sensor networks; smart sensors; sensor fusion; signal conditioning and amplification; mobile and granule terminals; electronic instrumentation; digital signal processing.)

Advanced Electronic Design - for instance: advanced CAD, hardware/software co-design;
platform-based design; advanced design techniques of: high performance/low power electronic systems; combined digital-analogic systems; high security systems (fault- tolerant); design for testability and design for production; components and sub-system libraries; documentation and project management; internet shared design, team working.)
