In the Netherlands, 250,000 people suffer from dementia and with our ageing society, this number will rapidly increase to 500,000 in 2040. Dementia is a progressive and ultimately deadly disease that not only affects the patients' everyday live, but also has a great impact on the life of their partners, family and friends.

Alzheimer Nederland is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. Our aim is to prevent or cure dementia. Until then we work to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in the Netherlands.

Alzheimer Nederland's fight for a better world for people with all types of dementia, takes a wide range of forms. Through our network of local meetings or `Alzheimer Cafés', we touch the lives of over 6,000 people with dementia and their carers every month, providing them with practical information and advice. Every year, more than half a million people make use of the information we provide.

Through campaigning and lobbying we strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. And through our research program we work on improving the knowledge we have about dementia and its treatment - and pursuing the ultimate goal of finding a cure.

Alzheimer Nederland has 52 local branches in the Netherlands and a head office in the town of Bunnik. They work closely together with regional and national care organisations. Internationally Alzheimer Nederland is a member of Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) and Alzheimer Europe (AE). Together they address worldwide awareness about the disease and exchange information and knowledge.
